Welcome back to another episode of Restorations and Customs with Vick. 

Today Vick is going to be tackling this super cooked pair of Gatorade Jordan 6s. 

From the crunchy suede and chipping paint, to the yellow sole and stained upper, these things are going to need a lot of attention. 

Vick himself even has some doubts. 

Let’s see how the Reshoevn8r sneaker cleaning products handle cleaning this beater pair of Air Jordan 6s. 

Sole Whitening with Reshoevn8r Sole Revive

First things first, we’re going to start on the outsole. To get the sole prepped for our Sole Revive, we need to clean it thoroughly to remove any dirt and debris. To speed up the cleaning process, Vick used some Reshoevn8r Sneaker Cleaning Solution and our Brass Bristle Brush, instead of the usual Stiff Bristle Brush. The Brass Bristle Brush will allow you to get a more efficient clean on your outsoles. 

Now that the soles have been scrubbed down, we can apply our Sole Revive. To unyellow icy soles, we need to apply a thin layer of Sole Revive across the surface, and then wrap them in Saran wrap to keep them fresh. 

Once the icy soles are coated and wrapped, we can put them under UV light to start the restoration and unyellowing process. For this restoration, Vick put the Gatorade Jordan 6s into our indoor UV setup to ‘cook’ for 5 days. 

The results are looking pretty promising. Vick was very worried about making these soles icy again, but the Sole Revive worked its magic and was able to remove most (if not all) of the yellowing. 

Deep Clean with the Signature Shoe Cleaning Kit

Time to move on to our cleaning with the Reshoevn8r Signature Shoe Cleaning Kit. As always, Vick started by removing the laces and inserting the Adjustable Shoe Tree, to allow pressure to be applied to the toe as we work through the deep cleaning process. 

Generally Vick likes to remove the insoles, too, but these babies were glued down so Vick opted to leave them in. 

Vick went to work on the suede uppers with some Reshoevn8r cleaning solution and the Soft Bristle Brush. The goal here is to remove all of the surface dirt and grime. 

Now that the uppers are cleaned off, we can move to the Medium Bristle Brush. Vick used the Medium Bristle Brush to scrub down the midsoles and outsoles. Usually we like to use the Stiff Bristle Brush on the outsoles, but because the outsoles have already been cleaned, we’re okay to work with the Medium Bristle Brush, as we’re only trying to remove any excess Sole Revive at this point. 

Tips and Tricks for Cleaning Suede

Vick then used the Brass Bristle Brush to reset the nap of the suede upper. Once he brushed the uppers and reset the nap, he noticed some more staining in the suede that the preliminary clean couldn’t remove. 

To target and remove these remaining stains, Vick used the sandpaper method. Starting with 400 grit, and then moving to 600 grit as needed, Vick gently sanded away each of the remaining stains on the suede upper. This is a great trick to remember if you’re struggling to remove stains with the Cleaning Solution. 

Repainting the Cracked Midsole

Vick also took the sandpaper to the midsole to smooth out the paint chipping and cracking. The orange paint on the midsole is still looking pristine, but the green paint is looking pretty rough. Vick used 600 grit and then 800 grit to smooth out the midsole to prep it for a fresh coat of paint. 

To get the paint just right, Vick mixed together 6 different colors; Green, Dark Green, Light Green, Olive, Avocado, and White. After applying it with an angular brush, the midsole is looking FACTORY. 

Restoring Suede with Mink Oil

You’ll notice that cleaning the upper and resetting the nap of the suede with the Brass Bristle Brush has faded the bright green color of the suede. To bring back the rich green hue Vick used our Mink Oil and brand new Horseshair Brush. The Mink Oil acts as a conditioner and when brushed in with the Horsehair Brush was able to restore the color of the suede…this pair is POPPING once again. 

All that’s left is to lace these up and show them off. Just look at the difference a few hours of time and attention can make in the life of a shoe.
