Vick Almighty Restores the Nike SB Dunk Low 'What The Dunk'
We got our hands on an absolute GRAIL this week as Vick Almighty is honored to work on the Nike SB Dunk Low "What The Dunk" in the latest episode.
For those unfamiliar, the Nike SB Dunk Low “What The Dunk” is a work of art in the sneaker world.
It combines elements from some of the most iconic SB Dunk colorways into a single creation. Released in 2007, the shoe features a mismatched design that pulls from legendary releases such as the “Pigeon,” “Hemp,” “Shanghai,” “Lobster,” “Raygun,” “Jedi,” “Buck,” “Cali,” “Hufquake,” and “Lucky.”
Each section of the sneaker showcases unique materials and graphics, including the famed “Pigeon” logo, the bold tie-dye pattern from “Raygun,” and the metallic gold hits from “Lucky,” among others.
The final result is a sneaker that’s as visually stunning as it is rich in history. To kickstart this project, Vick must remove the sole on both sneakers.
To keep the pair as OG as possible, Vick needs to be gentle with the thread, as we'll preserve everything to keep it near factory level.
As both outsoles need cleaning, Vick uses a Stiff Bristle Brush paired with a water bowl and the Reshoevn8r solution. To work on the upper, Vick will use the Soft Bristle Brush to dry brush the pair and the Dry Suede Kit to clean up the suede.
The cleanings must be done with extreme care with so many different materials. After applying a layer of glue to the bottom of the uppers and midsoles and letting them dry, Vick returns to reconstructing the pair.
Then, it's time to glue down the lasting boards before re-threading the shoe. For the second cleaning on the upper, Vick uses the all-new OxiClean x Reshoevn8r Sneaker + Hat Cleaning solution to bring the pair back to life.
Now, all that's left is to lace the pair up and then preserve them using the CapSoles signature preservation kit to double the life span of the shoe and prevent crumbling, yellowing, and aging.
